What is EER and COP of an Air Conditioner?

EER/COP are the units that measure an air conditioner’s efficiency. Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) is used to measure the AC’s efficiency in cooling whereas the Co-efficient of Performance (COP) is used for heating conditions. AC units that have a higher EER/COP value are considered to be more efficient.

What is Hyper Inverter Technology?

Hyper Inverter technology is a highly efficient inverter technology. Inverter technology helps to maintain a room’s temperature through the continual adjustments of the cooling and heating outputs. The Inverter technology adjusts to changes in the room’s temperature by slowing down the output when the desired temperature is reached and slightly increasing it to maintain the temperature against any changes. Hyper Inverter completes this process in a highly efficient way.

What does Heating and Cooling Capacity kW mean?

The heating and cooling capacity of your AC is measured in kilowatts (kW). Kilowatts measure the amount of energy output that occurs during operation. AC units that have a larger kW capacity can heat or cool larger spaces.

What do the Energy Star Ratings stand for?

The energy star ratings are a mandatory label that most single-split AC systems must include. The star rating represents the energy efficiency of the AC system. The higher the number of stars on the energy labels the more efficient your system is.

Where should I place my air conditioner in the room?

To select the best location in your house for your AC unit you will need to consider the shape and size of your room, the capacity of the unit, and the piping length that connects the indoor and outdoor unit. Contact Seabreeze Air Conditioning today and find the best place to install your air conditioner.

How long will it take to install a wall mounted split system?

Depending on the unit you purchase the installation time will vary. Most split-system air conditioners can be installed within a few hours. (3 to 5 hours). For Ducted systems, this process is longer as there is more work needed. (8 to 12 hours in general). For the complete installation times and availabilities please contact Seabreeze Air Conditioning.

How do I clean my split system air conditioning filters?

For Wall-Mounted systems, cleaning the filters on the indoor unit of your AC is usually a simple process. If you use your air conditioner often you will need to regularly check and clean the filters.

We recommend doing this at least every couple of months if your AC is used daily. If you use your AC unit infrequently you should clean your filters at the start of the heating and cooling season. The design of the filters means they are easily washed with
soap and water.

Here is a general guide for cleaning your split system air conditioning filters.

1. Pull out the air filters.

  • Open the front panel.
  • Push a little upwards the filter tab at the center of each air filter, then pull it down.

2. Wash the air filters with water or clean them with vacuum cleaner.

  • It is recommended to clean the air filters every season.

If the dust does not come off easily

  • Wash the air filters with neutral detergent thinned with lukewarm water, then dry them up in the shade.
  • Be sure to remove the titanium apatite deodorising air-purifying filter.

Refer to Titanium apatite deodorising air-purifying filter below.

3. Set the filters as they were and close the the front panel.

  • Press the front panel on both sides and the central area.

Titanium apatite deoderising air-purifying filter

1. Take off the titanium apatite deoderising air-purifying filter.

  • Open the front panel and pull out the air filters.
  • Hold the recessed parts of the frame and unhook the 4 claws.

2. Clean or replace the titanium apatite deoderising air-purifying filter.

Maintenance

a. Vacuum dust, and soak in lukewarm water or water for about 10 to 15 minutes if the dirt is heavy.

  • Do not remove the filter from its frame when washing with water.

b. After washing, shake off the remaining water and dry in the shade.

  • Since the material is made out of polyester, do not wring out the filter when removing water from it.

Replacement

a. Hold the recessed parts of the frame and unhook the 4 claws.

  • Do not throw away the filter frame. Reuse the filter frame when replacing the titanium apatite deodorising air-purifying filter.
  • Dispose of the old filter as non-flammable waste.

3. Set the filters as they were and close the front panel.

  • Press the front panel at both sides and the central area.

Additional Notes & Considerations:

  • Operation with dirty filters cannot deodorise the air, cannot clean the air, will result in poor heating or cooling, and may cause odour.
  • Dispose of old filters as non-flammable waste.

Do I have to professionally service my air conditioner?

Air conditioners, like any other appliance, need to be regularly maintained to ensure their longevity. It is highly recommended that you professionally service your air conditioner annually. Some manufacturers request this to maintain the 5-Year Warranty period.

To ensure your air conditioner works all year round you should regularly check, or have a technician check, for any blockages or obstructions in the drain pipes that run from your outdoor unit, clean the filters and ensure your air conditioner is regularly serviced.
Seabreeze Air Conditioning can provide this service for you at very competitive prices.

Do I have to put new Refrigerant Gas in my system on a regular basis?

No! Definitely not. Refrigerant re-gassing will only be needed if the outdoor unit is damaged, there is a leak on the interconnecting pipework or the indoor unit is damaged and leaking refrigerant. In this event, please contact Seabreeze Air Conditioning immediately.

Do I need to use a Licence Air Conditioning Installer to install my air conditioner?

Yes – most definitely. The installation process for air conditioners involves both electrical and refrigeration work, which is why it is important to have a licensed air conditioning technician do the installation. In Australia, only a registered ARCTICK (Australian Refrigeration Council) Installer with an Air Conditioning; Refrigeration Supervisor Certificate or Contractor Licence should be used. Your 5-year parts and labour warranty will be voided if your system is installed by an unlicensed installer.

When I have my old split system replaced with a new one, can I use the same pipework to save money?

When replacing an old air conditioner, we recommend that you replace all parts of your system. Seabreeze Air Conditioning cannot guarantee that when the new AC is installed the quality of the existing pipes will be sufficient or match the size required for your new system. Also the new refrigerants used in the new energy efficient systems require a heavier duty copper pipe to contain the high pressure gas.

Is it OK to cover my outdoor unit with a screen to make it blend in more with my outdoor furnishings, facade or garden?

Covering your outdoor system may impact the functionality of your unit. Outdoor units require adequate clearance in order to operate effectively. Covering the outdoor unit restricts the ventilation of the outdoor unit and this impacts the performance of the unit. We recommend that you do not cover the outdoor unit of your AC as this may cause unnecessary problems and may void your Warranty Terms and Conditions.

Can I control my air conditioner from my phone?

Yes! With ther Optional Wi-Fi control you can control and monitor your AC from your phone. In fact, most of the newest Split System, has built-in Wi-Fi. Whether you are at home or not you can maintain complete control over your AC at all times.

Can you leave the air conditioner on all day?

Leaving your AC on is usually preferable to turning it off completely, which can quickly introduce a lot of heat and humidity into your home. Even within a few hours, the inside temperature can increase dramatically. Just remember there is a shutdown period required during the night to morning. Generally, all residential air conditioning systems should be turned off between the hours of 10pm to 8am. But check with your local council on this.

Which is the best air conditioner to buy?

Choosing the best air conditioner to buy depends on various factors such as room size, energy efficiency, noise level, brand, and budget. You should research and compare different models and brands to find the one that fits your needs and preferences. For assistance, please reach out to us or check out our air conditioning systems.

What is a Multi-Split System?

Similar to a split-system, but with one outdoor unit connected to two or more indoor units. Good for two or three rooms that are reasonably close together, especially when separate split-systems or a ducted system and suitable.

How noisy are air conditioning systems?

How noisy are air conditioners? Most modern split-system air conditioners are very quiet indoors and out, but it's worth checking an air conditioner's noise levels before you buy.

  • We measure noise as part of our split-system air conditioner reviews. In our latest test, the noise from indoor units ranged from 19dB to 53dB, and from the outdoor units, 42dB to 69dB (measured on the quietest indoor fan setting).

For comparison, here are some common sound levels:
  • 30dBA – typical sound level of a quiet home.
  • 50dBA – interior of a quiet car while driving.
  • 60dBA – typical conversation.
  • 70–80dBA – vacuum cleaner.

A noisy indoor unit may interfere with your activities, conversation or sleep. A noisy outdoor unit can disturb you (if it's too close to a bedroom or living room window) or your neighbours, so consider outdoor unit placement carefully.

Most local councils have noise restrictions relating to the use of air conditioners. Check council regulations before buying, and your strata rules if you live in an apartment, especially if the outdoor unit needs to be installed close to a neighbour';s house.

Are Wall Mounted Split System air conditioning systems expensive to run?

Over 30% of Aussies think that their air conditioner is the main contributor to their electricity bill, so it makes sense that this is one of the biggest air conditioner myths out there.

The reality is that modern air conditioners deliver approximately 300-to-400% efficiency. This means for
every 1kW of power your air conditioner uses, it can deliver between 3-4kW in cooling or heating power.

Given the more efficient an appliance is, the cheaper it is to run, air conditioners (if used appropriately) are reasonably cheap to run!

The breakdown below includes some approximate running costs of various appliances compared to the
average air conditioner ($ Running Cost per kWHour):

  • Air Conditioner: $0.13 - $ 0.36
  • Oven: $0.63 – $1.33
  • Stove Cooktop: $0.42 – $0.84
  • Microwave: $0.28 – $0.53
  • Clothes Dryer: $0.50 – $3.14

* Running costs are approximate. Based on $0.35/kWh electricity costs. The current electricity charges as of August 2024 is $0.384c kWh. So these figures will be slightly higher than what is displayed below.
